This Tote is an ode to the friendship of Zora Neale Hurston and Langston Hughes, who collaborated on "The Mule Bone," a comedic play, which would never be produced due to a copyright dispute between the two prolific writers. 

Langston Hughes-Poet, Langston Hughes was best known as a prolific leader of the Harlem Renaissance.  At the very young age of 17 he wrote his first poem, " The Negro Speaks of Rivers," while visiting his father via train. This trip brought about a deep examination of humanity and further feelings of his ancestral history. This poem was published in 1921 in the Crisis, a major Harlem publication. 

Zora Neale Hurston-Author, Anthropologist. Zora Neale Hurston was also a central figure in the time of the Harlem Renaissance. She is best known for her works of fiction which include "Their Eyes Were Watching God," a novel published in 1937. Within her 30 year career Zora published four novels, two books of folklore, an autobiography, numerous short stories, essays, articles and plays.
