MLK Jr. (1929-1968) Known as one of the most influential and transformative figures of our time. He was a Baptist minister and social activist who led the civil rights movement in the United States from the mid-1950s until his death by assassination in 1968.
Dorothy Height (1912-2010) Women’s rights activist, godmother of the civil rights movement. President of the National Council of Negro Women. “If you worry about who is going to get the credit you don’t get much work done.”
Diane Nash (1938-) Diane Judith Nash is a civil rights activist, a leader and strategist of the student wing of the Civil Rights Movement. Nash's campaigns were among the most successful of the era including the Freedom Rides and the Selma Voting Rights Campaign.
John Lewis (1940-2020) Inspired by MLK Jr, Lewis joined the civil rights movement as known as one of "The Big Six", and was a Freedom Rider, spoke at 1963's March on Washington and led the demonstration that became known as "Bloody Sunday." He was elected to Congress in 1986 and received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2011.
